“Girls Only” Art Exhibit June 21st 6:00 (and an “Art Infusion”)
Summer equinox June 21st the perfect day to have our first professional art show. i couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate the season than to invite some of the most artistically talented women i know to show off their art. Amanda Linn, Nancy Dunaway, Carol Small, Lana Taliaferro, Rachel Swartz, Kathy (erine) Strause, and myself, it doesn’t get any better than that. everyone of us have something unique, thought provoking, and defiantly not suddle bone in the crowd. it’s going to be a great show i am sure there will be talking after this one. i think this is a good way to get started. but as if that were enough we have all decided that we want to do an “art infusion” since most of us teach workshops around the country this seemed like a good time to put together a “happening” so now the week before the show we are going to host a workshop to fill the town with like spirits, those that love creating, not afraid to paint our feelings, and free willing in pigment, pen, and pencil. Very cool! so now i am ordering registration forms, tables, chairs, supplies out of the “wazoo “and looking at ways of getting the word out. oh and i do very much appreciate your suggestions. thank you tm (and we are only taking 30 total so tell your friend fast this one is going out all over)

As a younger artist, I explored the art themes all artists are required to explore before they croak- family, illness, place, childhood, self… you get the picture… Some of the art resulting from these explorations was good, most of it was okay, and some of it recently left my parent’s attic in contractor grade garbage bags. At this point, I seek to create art representing what I find visually and culturally interesting. I’m sure in some way this art still addresses the previously mentioned required art themes, but maybe in a more enjoyable way with a lighter hand. I was inspired to look at my artmaking practice in this way thanks to a kid I taught years ago who made paintings about Burl Ives and corndogs. I enjoy narrative. The people I adore most in this world are great storytellers. Those unique individuals who can turn a seemingly mundane occurrence into an epic tale complete with character voices and sound effects. With my photographs and constructions, I attempt to tell a story. My influences include Piero della Francesca, Patsy Cline, and unnecessary plastic objects.
