Artchurch Studio Children’s Summer Camps
The Artchurch Studio is a gallery for local artists, as well as a studio for all manner of art, dance, theater, and yoga classes for children and adults. It is also home to the Menefee family, local artists who are converting and saving a Hot Springs landmark. If you haven’t yet experienced this wonderful convergence of artistic inspiration, instruction, and expression, stop by the studio on Whittington Avenue (just two blocks from Central Avenue) or visit their website at www.artchurch.org.
The Artchurch Studio will offer six summer camps designed for children ages 7 to 15. Each camp is limited to 24 children and kids are divided into classes of 6 to 8. Experienced state certified and Master teachers provide quality and inspiring instruction. Each camp focuses on a different art theme, time period, and artist. Activities include music, dance, theater, and visual arts in the time period of the artist. (See the list of camps below). Camps last for three hours per day for a week and include all supplies, snacks, and a t-shirt. Space is limited so register early.
Camp Schedule:
July 13th – 17th (9:00 – 12:00) Hokusal (Great Wave) Adventures in the Far East
Campers will explore the process of print making and paper making as they emulate the work of this Japanese artist. Also, because of its study of cultural and tribal art, this is a great camp for kids who love to move and are natural percussionists! Register Here!
July 13th – 17th (1:00 – 4:00) Michelangelo (Sistine Chapel) Everything Has a Story
What narratives would you read in the works of this famous painter? Young artists will have great fun as they consider story telling in art. They will look at mythological subjects and religious icons in paintings. Come ready to roll up your sleeves and create your own stories. Register Here!
July 20th – 24th (9:00 – 12:00) Degas (Dancers) Action in Motion
Kids love to move and love to create. They will do both as they learn how artists show action in their work including the use of unusual angles. Students will also become acquainted with Impressionism and the works of this famous artist of ballerinas and racehorses. Register Here!
July 20th – 24th (1:00 – 4:00) Van Gogh (Sunflowers) The Beauty of Nature
Everybody knows Van Gogh, but campers will explore not only his work but also the use of imagination, stylizing, and flowing curvilinear forms in art. Students will enjoy making their own master pieces. Register Here!
July 27th – 31st (9:00 – 12:00) Picasso (Three Musicians) Whimsy and Pattern
Examining the work of this famous painter will allow students to consider those Cubist ideas of abstract, broken up, reassembled, multiple viewpoints, and random angles. Kids will have a great time employing strident colors and wild brush work in their work. Register Here!
July 27th – 31st (1:00 – 4:00) Warhol (Tomato Soup Can) Pop with Groove
